CWWreads : my true love gave to me….

I am super excited to be joining in on this month’s To Fill Up & Live Book Club link up with Kari and Kay.  I haven’t done a book review in a while so I thought it was a good way to help keep my blogging ball rolling.  Yes? Yes.  I think so.
The book for this month was My True Love Gave To Me: Twelve Holiday Stories Edited by Stephanie Perkins.  I thought this book was a great choice to read over the holidays.  Who doesn’t love to curl up with a hot drink and roaring fire by the Christmas and read a holiday story.  They only way it could have been better was if I had asked Scott to read it to me  There’s always next year.  haha.  Plus, it was an easy read especially in a time of year when there isn’t a lot of spare time.  I loved that I could just pick it up and read a story rather quickly and then put it down till the next time I could sit down and cozy up with it.
I was really eager to read the one by Rainbow Rowell as I have yet to read any of her books. I know, I know.  I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get a sampling of her writing style and see what I thought.  What I thought was WOW! Her story Midnights was by far and above my favourite.  I had to re-read later it was so good.  It definitely moved her to the top of my to read list.  It is adorable and heart melting.
My next favourite was Angels in the Snow by Matt de la Pena. This story was touching and funny with great characters.
What the hell have you done, Sophie Roth? by Gayle Forman was entertaining.  I fell in love with the character and it was developed really nicely.
It’s a Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown by Stephanie Perkins, Welcome to Christmas, CA by Kiersten White and Beer Buckets and Baby Jesus by Myra McEntire I liked all these stories just fine.  They had cute characters.  Like definitely, did I love them? Meh.
Your Temporary Santa by David Levithan Although, not one of my favourites I still liked the underlying story premise.
The rest of the stories weren’t really my glass of wine cup of tea. As a whole, I really enjoyed this collection though.  There were definitely more winners than not.  Which I was actually surprised at since I hadn’t actually even heard of any of the authors besides Rainbow Rowell.  Oops, I hope that isn’t crazy? Plus, honestly for some reason I have never really been a fan of short story collections.  I really wanted to read these because I thought it would be festive and I wanted to join the link up.  hehe.  I am really glad I did.  It also inspired me to actually read Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol for the first time too.  Of course, that I loved.
Have you read this book yet?  What are your thoughts on short story collections? Yay or nay? If you stopped in from the link up let me know/leave me a link so I can check out your thoughts too!
