forts, frogs and frolicking

All this snow is making me wish I could just twitch my nose and magic appear back on the beach here.  I thought it would be nice to at least pretend I was basking in the sun instead of slopping through the snow with a little Wanderlust Wednesday.  Before I took my little cough cough hiatus from blogging I was telling you guys all about my recent cruise. Well, I started to but I never got around to any further than the day that almost never ended.  Let’s pick back up with our first actual port.
St. Croix was our first port of call on the our cruise last November.  Wow, I can hardly believe it has been that long since we went already.  This was one of the ports we were most looking forward to seeing.  There is a beach pretty much right across from the ship that we were excited to relax on after all that travel.  The view coming in was actually a lot nicer than the pictures I took.  Mostly, because I dropped the ball on getting any.

Once we got on land we were greeted with the usual Caribbean flair of music and entertainment.  Love the guy on the stilts.  I could so never ever do that.

We took a stroll around town.  Saw some shops and a bit of an open market.  It wasn’t as touristy as some of the previous ports we have been to but that was actually nice.  I have a thing for clocks and this clock tower didn’t disappoint for sure.

This could have been a nice picture of my sister and her husband if not for the conspicuously placed glare.

My first attempt at creativity with the new camera.  haha. So much to learn.

We took a step back in time in Fort Frederick circa 1760.  It was pretty neat to see.  The kids really loved it too.  It was really funny how small the doorways for certain things are.  The guys took turns bumping their heads.

This would be my brother-in-law after one such bump.

And how cute is that little guy.  Normally, I am not into bugs and insects and all the creepy crawlies that my nephews love.  This guy was a charmer though.  Oh, and such a poser.  hehe.

After our hot fort tour we headed straight to the beach to frolic in the water and waste the rest of the day away.  This was the view of the ship from the beach.  It was really close.

And that was St. Croix ladies and gentleman.  Have you ever been? What is your favourite Caribbean port or sun destination if you haven’t been?
