Truly Canadian Date Night

Last Friday night Scott and I decided to have an impromptu date night. Dinner seemed to be a great place to start because well food..duh. We decided to hit up a new local restaurant that Scott had heard good reviews about. Craft Corner Kitchen is a unique family style concept here in Penticton. It was very open, inviting and homey feeling.

I got an amazing glass of wine from Fairview Cellars called Bucket O’ Blood. I definitely need to get down to this winery because I have had a couple good glasses out and about recently. Scott had an IPA beer that was pretty good too. If you like beer. I try and then I digress.

For an appetizer we had a butternut squash quesadilla. It was different but delicious. Loved the apple topping. If you could eat fall I am pretty sure it would taste exactly like this dish. Scott also ordered a meat dish that all my pictures turned out blurry on. Whoops.

We decided to head out to another new place in town for the second course. An evening of firsts is always fun. We tend to get stuck in a rut and go to the same places all the time. We are also still made that our favourite restaurant in town shut down. It re-opened as a coffee and wine bar which normally would get a WOOT WOOT because those are my favourite things but this is bittersweet.

Next we hit The Nest and Nectar. They are super new. I think she said that they had only been open a week. It is down at the historical Cannery Trade Centre in town here. They do breakfast, lunch and evening tapas and cocktails. From the looks of the menu and the success we had we will definitely have to go back and try the breakfast out soon.

Another beer and glass of wine later, we tried out chicken wings and a flatbread. We were both extremely happy. Both were delicious! Then we twisted our rubber arms and got the tiramisu which turned out to be the star of the evening. Amazing and I loved the plating.

Stuffed, we headed out wondering what to do next. We were debating a movie at home or the theatre. We drove by the arena and thought dropping in on the local junior hockey game seemed like a great way to continue the night. Never mind the fact that the game was 2/3 over. Semantics.

We got there just as the 2nd period was ending and stayed for the last one. It was fun times and our first game of the year. Amazing food, drinks and a hockey game sound like a truly Canadian date night to me.

  • When I first saw this post title I was like well this has to include denim on denim and a lot of beer and eh and yes hockey! But also you guys have the best restaurants there i can’t even!!

    • Denim on denim. Haha. Oh course, hockey! What kind of Canadian would I be without it? I say that like I go all the time which as you know I don’t. Bad Canadian. I swear it is not my fault it is just that the wine is too expensive there. 😜
