Open Season on Wine

This is the happiest time of year. Ok, the second happiest because you all know I love me some Christmastime.  The local wineries are opening up their tasting rooms and patios for all to come and sip and enjoy.  What could be better on a sunny Sunday afternoon that sipping wine overlooking a vineyard or the lake? Actually in a lot of lucky cases both you can do both.

Our first trip always seems to be at our favourite winery, Black Widow.  Although, we knew that many of the wineries were opening over the Easter weekend we had not planned on visiting any.  My sister and her husband were up for the holiday.  We spent most of the weekend at my brother’s house visiting and such.  Only Scott and I are wine fans so we weren’t planning on dragging anyone out on a tour.
I was scrolling through Instagram while waiting for most of them to come back from the grocery store and stumbled across this…

Isn’t that like a personal invitation to come down? It would be totally rude not to just get in the car and go right away? Yeah, that is what I thought and so we did just that.  I had only planned on running in quickly to pick up a bottle of the limited edition Pinot Noir.  Of course, once we got their we had to have a little tasting and a chat.  One bottle of Pinot Noir, a Gewurtztraminer and a Vintage One Port heavier we left with smiles on our faces looking forward to the upcoming barrel tasting next month.
I didn’t take too many pictures because we already have a bunch from here.  Plus, I wasn’t really thinking about blogging during the tasting.  Just sip, sip, sip.
Scott said that one of his clients at work had just opened up a new winery and it was pretty much right across from where we were. It only made sense to stop on in then while we were in the area. Tightrope winery is beautiful. The location on the lakeside of the road gives it even more spectacular vantage point. I really wish I had thought about blogging and taken more pictures especially inside. It really is a very cool place. I love the chrome and wood combo decor that they have going. I will definitely have to go back and take some more pictures.
One thing that I love about wineries that is totally unrelated is they always have the friendliest dogs. There were a few more here that I didn’t get a chance to snap a shot of but they were all so cute.
We had a great tasting once inside. It was actually really hard to choose a favourite so we ended up leaving another three bottles heavier.  Oops.  This lot included another Pinot Noir, the Tightrope Rosé and a Tip Toe which is a blend of Gewurtztraminer, Riesling and Chardonnay that I am excited about.
Also, I think I am falling in love with Pinot Noir. Which is exciting because I have been trying to get into red wine for a while. It is finally really growing on me. Oh and that Apothic Red I tried this weekend changed my life.  I am quite sure of it. I might have mentioned that a million times before.
I am so excited about the upcoming summer and wine touring. This really is an amazing place to live if you love wine like I do. I am looking forward to sharing all or this and more with you.
