Find Beauty Friday || Frenemies

As I have said before in previous Find Beauty Friday posts, I strive to find beauty in daily life. I want to find the magic in the little things. This is so important to me especially lately. Life has been a bit of rollercoaster this last year. Sometimes I just need to find the little things that bring joy and try to feel a little more like I have both feet planted firmly on the ground.

Today I thought I would share this little piece of our lives. This little piece of our joy. There has been a tangible emptiness in our lives since Tigger passed on 2.5 years ago. Wow, has it really been that long? Yes, it has. I don’t really want to dwell on that today.

In the fall after that, my sister and her husband moved in with us with their two cats until they could get a place of their own up here. Talk about full house. They moved out last March and Mary took a bit of down turn. We figured she was lonely as she has never been an only cat. She’s 20 years old now so we know we are living on borrowed time. We decided to get her a companion.  We had intentions of getting a different cat than we did but that is a story for another day.

We ended up bring this handsome little Prince home. I know I haven’t formally introduced the newest edition to our family yet but I promise I will. It has been a little bit of an adjustment for everyone. It has been a long time say 20 years since I have had a kitten in the house. It is amazing and exhausting all at once. They didn’t take to each other right away. In fact they are still working out the details there.

He loves her to death and is constantly in her face. He’s high energy and she’s just trying to live out her retirement years in peace. It has only been more recently that they have come to place where they can peacefully co-exist in close proximity. They generally aren’t nap time buddies. They are more like frenemies but it works. She’s been much better health wise since we brought him home.

I was pleased as punch recently when I found something they could bond over. Cue in a little iPad entertainment in the form of Paint for Cats.* It is pretty simple. A mouse runs all over the screen and anytime they touch it the mouse squeaks and it paints the screen. I originally got this as a game for the kitten to waste some energy on but Mary seems to love it too. Although, she does take a more laid back approach to game strategy than he does. I think the whole thing is hilarious especially when they try to catch it under the iPad.

Pictured above is a rare moment of bonding over said game. A beautiful little moment of joy for me. A moment of peace. Of knowing that life can settle down a little. That we don’t always have to be in flown blown spaz mode. He’s earned the nickname Prince Spaz. He comes by it honestly and so do I sometimes. We love him dearly and can’t imagine not having him in our lives. He fills a bit of that void left behind in ways we never imagined possible.

It is amazing how something so simple and quite possibly stupid can also be so beautiful.
