back at the ranch

For many moons in another space, there was Travel Thursdays and all was good.  Recently,  those Wanderlusters started to get anxious.  Thursday just wasn’t the place to be for them anymore.  They got jealous of all the space that Wine was taking up on Wednesdays.  Complaining that Wine came from Sundays and should stay there.  Wine being so easy going gave up her space and moved to Sundays to hang out in her sippy cup in peace.  So from this moon forward there will be Wanderlust Wednesday and Sippy Cup Sunday bringing peace and harmony back to our world.
I am bringing you today’s Wanderlust Wednesday straight from the archives of my iPhoto Library.  A few probably many years ago I went on a family trip to visit Grams.  While we were there we took a little bit of a day trip to see O’Keefe Ranch.  This historic site is about a couple of hours from where I live right now and it is just outside the town of Vernon.
Back in 1867 it was the stage coach depot and the end of the wagon road into the Okanagan Valley.  They had Blacksmith, Post Office, grist mill, church and even a cemetery.  A lot of the old buildings are still there and now this once small, self-contained community is a walk through history for the many tourists she attracts every year.
I thought I would share with you some of the pictures I took back then.  I would love to go back now that I have a bit of a better eye for taking pictures I would actually want to share with people and a better camera.

My sister loves horses and she doesn’t really get around them much.  You can bet she wished this one would just take off for a bit of run.

So many of the old stoves to see.  I have always been curious about them.   We have one at our cabin.  I love it.  The food always seems to taste better there.  The coffee is to die for.

I find it so hard to believe that people lived in such small spaces.  My how the times have changed.

I absolutely love this fireplace/mantle.

I love all this historic stuff.  I hope I am able to get back here one day soon to take it all in again.  Although we just went on a walking tour that day, they do host a variety of other events throughout the year.  Some of the things include a corn maze, haunted halloween, cowboy dinner show and they even have blacksmith classes.  It has such a rich history.  You feel like you are being transported to a different time and place, a simpler one. I know I need that reminder once in a while.
